Summer School Residential Accommodation Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh

Heriot-Watt University is considered one of the best campuses in Edinburgh with great facilities for education and activities state-of-the-art facilities. It is surrounded by greenery and yet close enough to the city centre. Edinburgh, the Scottish capital is full of attractions from a magnificent Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile with cobbled streets, building of Scottish parliament to a park with landmark hill called Arthur’s Seat.

Heriot-Watt - International Summer school

Location

Time to Edinburgh: 30mins by public transport. Nearest town: Edinburgh. Transfer times: EDI - 20mins, GLA - 1 hour 25 mins. Groups are met at the airport by an Activity Leader who will welcome you and escort you back to the campus. Travelcards: Single journey bus passes distributed on Edinburgh excursion days.

Facilities

Sports: Excellent facilities include a sports hall, football, basketball, volley ball, tennis and badminton. Gym is available for group leaders. With charges. Social spaces: There is the Student Union, nightclub, chill out area, bar and cafe for most evening activities. Small kitchens in the accommodation for Group Leader tea and coffee.

Accommodation

En-suite accommodation furnished with a desk for private study, and a personal Wi-Fi router. Located in a beautiful, natural setting surrounded by landscaped gardens. The halls of residence are located at the rear of the campus, around 5 minutes’ walk from the canteen and classrooms. Rooms are situated on long corridors allowing groups to stay together where possible.

Local Transport

Bus: Lothian Buses offers local bus services 25, X25, 34, 45 and N25 (night bus) to the Edinburgh campus. Service 25 leaves the city centre every 15 mins and every 30 minutes after 8.00pm. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes.

Internet

Wi-Fi internet is available across campus including in halls of residences. Please refer to your Centre Manager for Wi-Fi access codes.

Academics

Average students per class: 16. English levels: Elementary - Proficiency (programme can be adjusted to lower English levels). Additional qualifications available: Trinity GESE exam and PCTO programme

Security

There is 24 hour security. No safes in the bedrooms. The Centre Manager has a safe in their office for Group Leaders to store money/passports securely. An access fob, a key and lanyard are supplied to students. A replacement key is £18 and a replacement fob is £10. A replacement lanyard is £ 2. Damage deposits of £20 or €30 will be collected.

Laundry

There is a laundry room located on site. Card system used. It is £2.70 for a wash and £1.20 for tumble dryers. Cards can be purchased from Loring Management Centre. All of the laundry facilities are self-service. Open: 7.00 - 23.00. Bed linen will be washed once a week by the University laundry.

Meal

Breakfast: 07:00 - 08:45. Toast, cereal, pastry, yogurt, fruit. Cooked breakfast once a week. Lunch: 12:30 - 13:45. Pasta, meat or vegetarian main course with potatoes, vegetables, salad and dessert. Dinner: 18:00 - 20:00. Meat or vegetarian main course with potatoes, vegetables, salad and dessert.
