Harrogate

Harrogate is a Victorian spa town with a relaxed, slow-paced life. It is located in the heart of Yorkshire easily accessible from international airports of Leeds Bradford or Manchester.

It is known for its cream teas and relaxing baths and full of great independent shops, antique stores and cosy pubs serving excellent beer for the older ones.

Harrogate’s story as a spa town is explained in the Royal Pump Room Museum. The first spring was discovered in the 16th century and proved to have medicinal properties for their high quantities of Sulphur, iron and other minerals. As the town was gaining popularity, more spa buildings were built to meet demand and One of these was the Royal Pump Room (the building that now houses the museum), you can see and smell the sulphur well here.

Stroll past the museum to the famous park, the Stray, that covers 200 acres of grass parkland. It provides a public space for games, walks and relaxation. There are great food and drink shops nearby so it is also a great place to enjoy a picnic away from the town centre.

Another beautiful opened space is the Valley Gardens perfect for a relaxed stroll or for a day out. It is an English Heritage Grade II Listed Garden made up of formal gardens, leisure activities and woodland. Historical buildings and the semi-covered Colonades sit amongst a wide variety of flower and herbaceous beds. The adventure play area is popular, especially during the summer. There are a wide range of sporting activities to try including; tennis, crazy golf, table tennis, disc golf as well as a skatepark.

This is a great place to spend your time learning English, our school of English is located in the centre of the town and has cosy classrooms, a common room and library for students.
